WordCards Terms of Service
Effective date: [set at publication]
1. Who we are
WordCards ("the app") is provided by [legal entity or individual developer name], [address], contact [email].
By downloading or using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
2. Who may use the app
You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to accept these terms and to make purchases. The app is intended for adults; a child may use it alongside a parent, but the account holder and purchaser is the adult.
3. What the app does
The app recognises English words in a photo you provide — a dictionary page, a word list, a screenshot, handwritten notes, or physical flashcards — and turns them into cards for study.
Recognition uses an automated service and is not guaranteed to be accurate. You are shown every recognised word before it is saved, and you can edit or delete any of it. Do not rely on the app as a sole source of linguistic accuracy.
4. Your content
You keep all rights to the photos you provide. You grant us only the limited right to process a photo for the purpose of recognising words in it, for the duration of that processing. We do not store photos, do not use them to train models, and do not use them for any other purpose.
You confirm that you have the right to photograph and upload the material you submit. Do not submit material whose photographing or processing would infringe someone else's rights.
5. Free use and purchases
The app is free to use up to [20] cards. Beyond that, a one-time in-app purchase unlocks further use for [6 months].
Purchases are processed by Apple under Apple's terms. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us — request them through your Apple account. Restoring a previous purchase is available in the app's settings.
Prices may change; a change never affects a purchase already made.
6. Acceptable use
Do not attempt to access the recognition service other than through the app, circumvent usage limits, reverse engineer the app except where the law expressly permits it, or use the service in a way that disrupts it for others.
We may limit or suspend access where use appears automated or abusive.
7. Availability
We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. Recognition requires an internet connection and a working third-party service; the rest of the app — studying saved cards — works offline.
We may change or discontinue features. If we discontinue the service entirely, cards already saved on your device remain there.
8. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from reliance on the accuracy of recognition. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death, personal injury, or fraud.
If you are a consumer, you keep all rights granted by mandatory consumer protection law in your country; nothing in these terms reduces them.
9. Termination
You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it. We may end your access if you materially breach these terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of [jurisdiction]. If you are a consumer resident in the EU/EEA or the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your country of residence, and mandatory consumer rules of that country continue to apply.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date above. Continued use after a change means acceptance.
